Shannan Palma

Shannan Palma is a PhD candidate in the Department of Women’s Studies. Her research focuses on analyzing the mythic functions fairy tales fulfill in American popular culture. When she’s not working on her dissertation, she’s writing speculative fiction or film scripts. In 2008, her short story, "Yours For Only $19.99!" was published in Misspelled, a DAW anthology edited by Julie E. Czerneda. More information on her research, as well as her speculative fiction, can be obtained at Foul Papers.

During her tenure at Emory, Shannan has taught classes in Women’s Studies, Film Studies, and Studies in Sexualities. Previously she taught English grammar and GRE prep classes. An avid reader, she loves to explore fields as diverse as history of religion and theoretical physics. Here at the Writing Center, she looks forward to reading students’ papers with the same range!
