Our Staff

Your name: Julia Cox

Your home town: Birmingham, AL

Your major(s): English/History/Journalism

Are you fluent in any language(s) other than English? I’ve had some Spanish, but "fluent" is a generous word.

What are your career plans? Not quite sure yet. Although I do plan to further my studies in graduate school.

What is your favorite book or author and why? It changes all the time. My current favorites are William Faulkner, Alice Walker, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Khaled Hosseini, Kazuo Ishiguro, and Philip Roth.

What is your most frequent grammatical error? Various problems with hyphen use

What is your biggest grammatical pet peeve? Misused homophones

What is your favorite word? A toss up between loquacious and bamboozle

What is your favorite procrastination method when you have a paper to write? A dangerous combination of facebook, Mario Kart, questionable television, and talking on the phone.

Describe (in a short paragraph) a significant breakthrough in your development as a writer: When I realized--after 25 pages, 43 footnotes, and 12 appendices--that lengthy research papers are most easily conquered when the topic is one that interests you.
