Our Staff

Your name: Arielle Medford

Your home town: Sandy Springs, GA

Your major(s): English/Creative Writing and Pre Med (so I can help with lab reports!)

Are you fluent in any language(s) other than English? Not yet, but I am working on Spanish.

What are your career plans? I am planning on being a doctor; however, I am also interested in scientific research and public health.

What is your favorite book or author and why? There are so many! If I had to list just one, the first that comes to mind is Catch 22 by Joseph Heller.  I couldn't even begin to explain why.

What is your most frequent grammatical error? I seem to have a love of dangling modifiers. Trying to pick my answer, this error hurried to the front.

What is your biggest grammatical pet peeve? That's a tough one.  I guess I'd have to say the misuse of commas. They seem to be a simultaneously neglected and abused population.

What is your favorite word? Sinews

What is your favorite procrastination method when you have a paper to write? Ballet videos on Youtube.

Describe (in a short paragraph) a significant breakthrough in your development as a writer: I used to be quite the rambler. I loved words, and I would try to pack in as many as I could. As can be imagined, this often caused problems, and my arguments would regularly get lost. When I finally started cutting out certain adjectives and adverbs, I realized the strength in concision. There are times for florid words, but only when they do not drown out a story or the body of a paper.
