The introduction is important because it is the door through which the reader enters your paper.
The Role of the Introduction:
An introduction may be one paragraph or several; think about it in terms of the introductory section of your essay.

2. communicate the topic of the essay
3. communicate the point or thesis of the essay
4. give the reader a sense of the structure of the essay [format]
