Describe a significant breakthrough in your development as a writer.
I took ENG 101 fall semester of my freshman year to fulfill the first-year writing requirement. I initially went into this course thinking I was a good writer but throughout the course I realized that there were many aspects to my writing that needed improvement – most noticeably my approach to writing a paper. Whereas in high school it was sufficient to draft a brief outline and then start writing, my professor for this course introduced me to writing bad first drafts to get initial ideas flowing and then to begin the process of revising it. When I started incorporating my professor’s tips and techniques into my writing process my papers became better and my grades improved significantly.
